Dwarves
Dwarves are a race of short, stout, individuals that posess great physical strength as well as strength of character. Most stand within on the lower side of the 4-5 foot range with thick skin and hair that is as varied as it is amongst humans. Personality varies among dwarves though they have a reputation for being boisterous espeically when alcohol or competition is involved. Dwarven females are the rarer of the two genders seen on the surface, though some surfacers say that's simply because the females also grow beards. Whether this is true or not remains a mystery to the general public. Dwarven craftsmanship is highly valued by most of those who live on the surface recognizing it to be superior to most. This is in part due to trade secrets that are passed down from generation to generation.
Dwarves as a whole tend to be of good alignment though individuals may fall anywhere within the spectrum of good or evil, especially those that live on the surface. The dwarven language is taught from birth with common taught along side to facilitate trade with outsiders. Combat skills with axes and other weapons is often taught from a young age to both males and females.
Creation Story
In order to protect and guard over the newly formed world, guardian spirits who's bodies were forged of stone and metal and fire. Their forms were short and hearty driving them to live deep within the world they were created to protect. As time progressed the dwarves took to staying mostly within their mountain homes and tunnels far underground, preferring not to guard and protect the whole of the creation but only a small portion of it. Eventually the world outside fell into disarray and the balance that the gods had so strived for in creating their world was in jepordy. As punishment for not fulfilling their role as the first of the god's creations, the dwarves were stripped of their glorious stone bodies which over time had been inlaid with precious metals and jewels. Though allowed to keep their underground homes the dwarves would now have to surface to fulfil their new bodily need for food and would either need to bring water down from the surface or harness it from underground springs. Many generations have now passed since the dwarves were stripped of their god-given gifts. Many of the younger dwarves believe the stories to be just old tales with little to no truth behind them.
Place in the World
Though legend may say that it is because they were once part of the land itself, it is a known fact that most dwarves prefer to spend their time underground. It is here that a culture has been built upon many foundations including the crafting of metals, alcohol, and other goods. When dwarves choose to leave their homes to live on the surface many of them find their way to the Adroit Plateau on Lu'mina Prominence which houses the crafting guild.
