Humans

Humans are creatures of dichotomy, indeed. They were not granted any innate purpose, no particular skills or strengths or powers such as the other races where - and yet they have the infinite potential to become or accomplish almost anything. They may be great wizards, warriors, engineers or political masterminds… their options are limited only by their imaginations. Their lifespans can be measured in a mere fraction of the breadth of the “elder” races, but they make up for it with rampant, unrivaled ingenuity. Human culture, technology, and civilization advances at a lightening-fast pace compared to the thoughtful and leisurely ways of most of the other races. They are painfully aware of their own mortality, and the most remarkable amongst them compensate for it that their names and deeds may be remembered though their flesh returns all too soon to the earth.

Humans in general are a species of ‘jack of all trades.’ They do not inherently excel at any particular thing, but are extremely hardy and adaptable to environment and circumstance. They likewise have no particular glaring weaknesses.

Creation Story

All things, Chaos knew, would have to change. The balance demanded it. Chaos was the agent of that change. Without Chaos, all things would end. Wisdom, though often in conflict with Chaos, recognized the need for such a force. Together, reluctantly, they created a simple race of beings whose only purpose was to remain without purpose. Their will would be devoid of bias, allowing them to be deeply influenced by the environment and their own lineage. To keep such an unpredictable force in balance, they would not be made with magical natures, nor would they be long-lived. Compassion named them Humans. Despite their seemingly weak natures, the gods feared them deeply for their destinies could not be divined.
