The Unbound

The unbound are creations that by choice or by complete accident have a will of their own, that is being unbound by another's control. Unbound may range from an object that has been animated like a doll or a scarecrow to an elemental to a form constructed out of metal, stone, or some other material. Very few unbound are exactly the same but are connected to one another in the fact that while they are by some definitions alive they do not eat, sleep, or breathe. Their bodies are not flesh and bone, except in some rare cases, and thus do not feel pain or are affected by most piercing weapons. The trade off is that their weakness is worn on their sleeve so to speak. The material that they are made of is still prone to it's natural weaknesses. For example a living scarecrow made of straw would still have reason to fear fire because that fire would burn up the straw that it is made of. Elementals are weak to their opposing element. Many constructs have a core that holds the magic that keeps them alive. Damage or destruction of this core may kill an unbound.

Creation Story

Whenever the gods were in need of servants, often times instead of approaching their own creations they would create constructs made of whatever materials were available. Sometimes these creations were made out of the elements themselves, other times out of rock, metal, wood, or any other material. These creatures were merely the means to and end and thus did not receive the blessings of the gods. Most importantly they did not receive the gift of free will that Chaos was so proud of. Often times these were made to fight battles or wage war. As time progressed, however, the use of constructs to perform the gods' deeds fell out of practice in favor of manipulating the various races directly.

Over the course of several millennium more advanced and in many cases deranged, students of the arcane worked to, and eventually did crack the gods' secret to creating beings of stone and other materials and started to experiment in creating their own servants. Most of these experiments, however, lead to creations that lacked a desire to do it's creator's bidding. The practice of creating golems or constructs using magic is now frowned upon but that does not prevent it from happening on occasion.

Place in the World

Unbound can be found in places as varied as they are themselves though many do not find it easy to fit within the higher circles on Lu'mina Prominence. Elemental types tend to stay clear of their opposing element whenever possible and thus may choose their residences accordingly.
